COURTENAY, B.C- Another defibrillator is coming to the Comox Valley.
According to a news release from the Comox Fire Department, the Monarch and Black Creek Lions Clubs have teamed up to fund an AED at the Lions Valley View Estates.
“It is great to see organizations like this stepping up to supply such important life saving equipment,” said Comox fire chief Gord Schreiner.
“The Lions are an important group here in the Comox Valley, they do so much for our community. Having AEDs located all around our community makes a lot of sense.”
According to the release, Comox will have 25 public access automated external defibrillators (AEDs), with eight along Comox Avenue in the downtown. Each one costs approximately $2,000.
“The Comox firefighters have been co-sponsoring the AEDS with local Comox businesses/groups who agree to donate half of this amount,” read the release.
“The Comox firefighters cover the remaining cost and place an AED in the business or building. They also provide both CPR and AED training to the businesses staff.”
The fire department carries AEDs on most of their emergency vehicles, and have one mounted at the fire station.
