Don Apps Trail closed to foot traffic until Dec. 19 as upgrades get underway

SEAL BAY, B.C. – Starting today, a popular trail in the Comox Valley has been temporarily shut down.

Upgrades will close Don Apps Trail in Seal Bay Park beginning today (Dec. 11) according to the Comox Valley Regional District.

The CVRD’s Manager of Parks Doug Demarzo said some of the retaining walls on the trail were in “not as good as shape as we’d like them.”

“So we thought it was important to re-construct one the switchbacks on the trail down to the beach,” Demarzo said.

An excavator and crew will be digging up a section of the trail in the ravine that leads down to the beach, the CVRD noted on its Twitter feed.

Demarzo said the Don Apps Trail is popular and used all year round.

“It’s one of a couple beach accesses down on the Seal Bay Park loop,” he said. “A lot of people use it as part of a loop trail.”

Due to deep holes and moving equipment, park visitors are being asked by the CVRD  to use other trails until it reopens on Dec 19 (subject to weather).
