VANCOUVER ISLAND, B.C- A new storm system is headed for Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.
According to Environment Canada, the next Pacific storm headed towards the area has potential for strong winds and heavy rainfall.
“A developing low-pressure system over the Pacific will intensify rapidly tonight as it tracks towards the BC coast,” read part of a special weather statement issued by the agency.
“The low is expected to make landfall somewhere along Vancouver Island on Thursday.”
The agency stated that computer weather models are predicting the low will move in on Thursday, but the exact path and timing remains unknown.
“With this system, there is the potential for both damaging winds and heavy rainfall but determining which regions will be most impacted depends on the precise details of the track and timing,” read the statement.
“So, stay tuned… wind and rainfall warnings will likely be issued for some regions later today as the storm details become more certain.”
The statement is in effect for the following areas:
- East Vancouver Island – Courtenay to Campbell River
- East Vancouver Island – Duncan to Nanaimo
- East Vancouver Island – Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay
- Sunshine Coast – Gibsons to Earls Cove
- Sunshine Coast – Saltery Bay to Powell River
