Year-end unemployment stats

According to Career Lab Advisor Rob Hughes, It’s been a busy season for Career Link. And for Vancouver island, the unemployment rate stayed fairly steady from 5.3 percent in November to 5.4 in December.
GOAT News caught up with Hughes about the year end numbers.

The unemployment rate in British Columbia for December has gone down to 5.4 percent from 5.8 in November. This makes it the lowest since 2008, but Hughes says that can be misleading.

Career Link is working with Vancouver Island University to make 2 programs available. There’s the Aboriginals in Trades Training, which is for both women and men of Aboriginal descent, and the Women in Trades Training program. The 12 week funded programs start up on January 26th.
