COMOX, B.C- A major senior’s care home in the Comox Valley has had a change in ownership.
According to a press release issued by The Views at St. Joseph’s, a 117-bed seniors’ care home in Comox located at the old hospital site, the facility has joined Providence Residential & Community Care Services Society (PRCC), with completion of the ownership transfer set for April 1st, 2019.
PRCC is a new branch of Providence Health Care, a Catholic healthcare provider based on the Lower Mainland.
The Views was previously owned and operated by the Bishop of Victoria.
The amalgamation and ownership of the Views by PRCC will have Views staff become PRCC employees, with medical staff privileged through the other company. That transition is also set for completion on April 1st.
“This is an exciting time in our organization,” says Deborah Mitchell, Vice President, Seniors Care, Organizational Strategy and Partnerships, in the company’s release.
“The Ministry of Health has identified seniors care as one of its key strategic priorities and challenged BC health authorities and organizations to meet the challenge creatively and effectively. We are recognized as leaders of compassionate, resident-centered care for seniors in BC.”
Mitchell went on to say that the establishment of the PRCC gives flexibility for the company to find partners in developing communities of care.
“The change in ownership of The Views to PRCC also accelerates and boosts our plans to redevelop The Views into an innovative, seniors-focused community of care,” said Michael Aikins, Administrative Officer, The Views, in the release.
“With PRCC as owner, we’re going to build a community with various levels of housing and care options that support seniors, and their spouses and partners, to age in place on a single campus – ranging from independent living, long-term care and specialized dementia care and neighbourhoods.”
