Union Bay standoff ends without incident

UNION BAY, B.C- A standoff in Union Bay last night ended without incident.

According to Constable Monika Terragni, the spokesperson for the Comox Valley RCMP, officers were called to a residence in the 5200 block of Washer Road in Union Bay around 5:50 p.m. on Monday evening.

“There was an indication to police that a man inside the residence was in possession of firearms and may try to harm himself or others,” said Terragni, in a written statement.

“The RCMP members at the scene established a perimeter around the residence and requested assistance from the Emergency Response Team.”

Accounts from the scene indicated a very heavy police presence while the situation was occurring.

“After a short time, the man inside the residence surrendered to police without incident,” said Terragni.

The man’s identity was not released by police.
