UPDATE: Northbound Highway 19A lane re-open following accident at Washer Road

UNION BAY, B.C. – A motor vehicle accident has shut down a portion of Highway 19A in Union Bay.

The Old Island Highway’s northbound lane is closed at Washer Road. The RCMP told MyComoxValleyNow.com that there is no official detour set up, but drivers can use the exit at the Buckley Bay ferry terminal to get on to Highway 19.

The RCMP did not specify how many vehicles were involved in the collision, and did not have an estimated time of reopening. Drivers are asked to avoid the area, if possible.

Further details will be added to this report once they become available.
