Courtenay’s Saputo processing plant to close: report

COURTENAY, B.C- A dairy processing plant in the Comox Valley is closing down this year.
That’s according to a report from CHEK News, who have stated that the Saputo processing plant in Courtenay will be shutting down as of March 31st, 2019.
A company spokesperson told the outlet that the closure is an economic decision, basing it on “operational efficiency”.
Twenty six unionized workers and three managers will be losing their jobs, and will be looking at options including relocation within Saputo.
Teamsters Local 464 President Paul Barton was quoted as saying there is always disappointment when a workplace closes down, but no one at the plant would be surprised.
CHEK also stated that local farmers assume their milk will be processed by Island Farms in Victoria.
