Snow causing Valley service disruptions

COURTENAY, B.C- The ongoing snowy weather is having an impact on public services in the Comox Valley.

According to the Comox Valley Regional District, the district’s Sports and Aquatics Centre’s pools and gyms will be closed at 3 p.m. The Sports Centre arenas will stay open, but the public skate has been cancelled.

Garbage collection is also being impacted, with the Town of Comox cancelling garbage, recycling and yard waste pickup due to the weather.

The town’s tentative plan is to have work start again, one day behind, with Tuesday’s pickup happening on Wednesday, Wednesday on Thursday, Thursday on Friday, and Friday’s pickup on Saturday.

Courtenay’s pickup schedule is following the same plan, though recycling pickup is not scheduled for this week. Cumberland has not had any changes, according to the Comox Valley Record.

The Record also reported that the Valley’s landfill remains open, and operations at 19 Wing Comox are normal, with some travel delays in commercial flights and ferries causing delays with training.

Anyone travelling out of the Comox Valley airport should check ahead to make sure their flight isn’t delayed.

As of this publication, there have been no ferry cancellations north of Nanaimo.
