COURTENAY, B.C. – Too Good To Be Threw is gearing up to move to a new home.
The thrift shop that supports the Comox Valley Transition Society will soon be headquartered out of the former Treasure Shack location at 239 Puntledge Rd., according to the society’s executive director, Heather Ney.
“On March 1 we take possession, and hope that we can be open there, probably by the second week of March,” Ney told the MyComoxValleyNow.comnewsroom.
The move comes less than a month-and-a-half after the building in downtown Courtenay that formerly housed the shop suffered significant damage in an early morning fire.
Ney said she “has heard nothing official” as to how the Jan. 20 fire started, however, the blaze does not appear to have been intentionally set.
The investigation is still ongoing.
Since it opened in October 2008, Too Good To Be Threw has been operated by the society.
One hundred percent of the funds go directly to the society, which offers assistance to women and children fleeing violence in and around the Comox Valley.
Ney explained how the move to the Treasure Shack unfolded.
“They had chosen to close their business down, and actually contacted us about the potential of fixtures that they may have that we could use,” she said. “And then we scoped out the space and thought this is a good temporary space for us. We’d been looking around for several days and there just isn’t a lot out there in good traffic locations.”
The Treasure Shack building, across from the Lewis Centre and next to Value Village, “is as good a location as we were going to get until we can go back to our original location (at 367 6th St.) which is what we hope to do.”
While they wait to move into the former Treasure Shack, the society has leased some temporary storage space at 470 Puntledge Road.
Donations can be dropped off there on Mondays and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
