Government funds four new hospice beds in Comox

‘The Views’ residential care facility over at St. Joseph’s Hospital is getting four new hospice beds, after a $250,000 grant from the Provincial government was handed down on Friday.

Health Minister Terry Lake was on hand to deliver the announcement.

According to Lake, they’re hoping to have the beds operating by the end of the year, although some more work still needs to be done on the details of the capital plan.

Island Health has also pledged to cover the operational costs of the four beds, which is roughly $850,000 a year, according to Island Health Board Chair Don Hubbard.
