19 wing has busy weekend with two rescues

4 boaters, and one float plane pilot have 19 wing Comox to thank, after crews made a couple of rescues over the weekend.

On Saturday evening, four boaters lost power to their engine when they hit a rock. Though they were able to navigate to shore, they got stuck in a rocky shoreline and decided to call the Joint Rescue Coordination Center.

Two SAR techs hoisted the boaters into a helicopter, where they were flown to a field in Sooke, and reunited with their families.

Then on Sunday, crews responded to a pilot of a float plane that had crashed in Fourth Lake, about 40 km southwest of Nanaimo.

Crews hoisted him into a chopper, then flew him to Nanaimo airport, where he too was reunited with his family.

Thankfully, Captain Trevor Reid says there are no injuries to report from either incident.
