45 cats in need of some TLC

COMOX VALLEY, BC- Comox Valley SPCA has taken in 45 cats after the owner called for help.

“We have the first wave here at the shelter and some of them have been transferred to the Nanaimo branch.” said Emily Priestley, the branch manager for the Comox Valley SPCA.

For the most part the cast are physically healthy, but they are still trying to recover mentally.

“We are just getting to know them. A lot of the cats have not had much exposure to people, so they are a little scared at this time, we are working on their behavior.” added Priestly.

The SPCA is looking for the public’s help.

They are accepting donations of towels, blankets, bedding and cat toys.

“At this time unfortunately, the cats just aren’t ready to greet people or have a lot of visitors at the shelter visiting them. It is a little too stressful for them.” Priestley explained.

The cats are slowly getting more and more human contact between the volunteers and staff working at the Comox Valley branch.

Down the road the shelter will be looking for homes for the cats.

Priestley says they would most likely do best in a quieter home, indoor only and overall just have a safe place to relax.

“They are coming around really well in shelter and we are hoping by next week the first couple of cats could go up for adoption.” says Priestly.
