Cats ready to find their forever homes

COMOX VALLEY, BC- 45 cats brought to the Comox Valley SPCA are now ready to find their permanent homes.

When the cats were first brought in they were nervous around people but have made some improvements, according to Emily Priestly, the branch manager for the Comox Valley SPCA.

Some of the cats were transferred to Nanaimo when they were first brought to the shelter.

For the most part, the cats were physically healthy, but were facing some mental recovery.

“They are starting to go up for adoption, a few of them are available now,” said Priestly.

“They are doing well but they will be cats who will be suited to specific homes.”

Priestly went on to explain that the cats future homes will have to meet some specific standards:

-owner who has experience with cats who are not very social
-must be kept inside
-no kids
-no dogs
-quiet home

“We’re only letting a select number of people in to meet the cats just so it does not overwhelm them while they continue with their behaviour modification.” said Priestly.

The cats have worked with staff and volunteers at the shelter to help with their social skills.

To adopt one of the cats or to learn more about the process visit the Comox Valley branch.

“We have actually had an over-whelming response from the public so we have lots of bedding and sheets and things like that for them which has been great. We are always happy to take cat food and cat toys.” said Priestly.
