Environment Canada warns of strong winds from Campbell River to Fanny Bay

NORTHEAST VANCOUVER ISLAND, B.C. – Brace yourself: Environment Canada has just issued a wind warning for East Vancouver Island, including Courtenay and Campbell River.

The wind warning is technically in effect for:

  • East Vancouver Island – Courtenay to Campbell River
  • East Vancouver Island – Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

Southeast winds will rise to 70 km/h gusting to 90 km/h as an intense front crosses the south coast on Saturday.

Winds are expected to subside Saturday late afternoon in the wake of the front.

According to Environment Canada, damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.

There have been no service notices issued from BC Ferries as of yet.
