Host Storm hope to make some noise at Cyclone Taylor Cup

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – The Campbell River Storm will once again be at the Cyclone Taylor Cup.

This time, the Storm is hosting.

The cup serves as the British Columbia provincial junior B hockey championship, and is played in a round-robin format involving B.C.’s top three squads, as well as a host team.

This year, the teams in town are the Revelstoke Grizzlies, the North Vancouver Wolf Pack, and the Victoria Cougars.

Each team will play once against each other, and from there are split into a gold and bronze medal game.

The two teams with the best record play each other for the gold medal game, with the two others playing for bronze.

Storm head coach Mike Wilson said his players are excited to still be playing, after a tough loss to Victoria in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League final series.

“You know what, (the Cyclone Taylor) is a new lease on life. We’re still alive, we still got more hockey,” Wilson said.

“This tournament is huge. You’re playing the champions of every league, the three best teams in the province. You know right there they’re obviously going to be hard games and big games for us.”

“But I think all season we’ve shown that we’re right there with those guys,” Wilson added.

The Storm’s first game is on Thursday night against the Wolf Pack. Game time is 7:45 p.m.

The tournament runs through to Sunday afternoon, with the championship game at three o’clock.

All games are being played at Rod Brind A’Mour Arena.
