Suspect turns herself in following hit-and-run incident at Campbell River auto dealership

CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – RCMP have identified a suspect in the hit-and-run incident that damaged five vehicles at a Campbell River auto dealership.

According to public statements from the Campbell River RCMP, the suspect turned herself in on Tuesday night and is now facing charges, and that alcohol was believed to be a factor in the incident.

On Monday night, someone drove an older model Ford Explorer onto the Coastline Mazda lot and bumped into several parked vehicles belonging the dealership.

Coastline Mazda general manager Allen Duns said he noticed on Tuesday morning that several vehicles had been pushed together.

“I can’t tell if it’s intentional or not or maybe it was somebody who was drinking or older on medication or something,” Duns told the MyCampbellNow.com newsroom yesterday.

Coastline Mazda released surveillance footage of the incident and had offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person(s) responsible.

On its Facebook page, Coastline Mazda thanked the public for sharing the footage, “and helping to find the person responsible for this reckless action.”

“With over 40,000 views and 700 shares, we are positive they knew they couldn’t hide,” the Coastline Mazda post said. “The driver has turned themselves into the RCMP with no specific reason for doing what was done.”
