City to remove hazardous trees from parks and trails

COURTENAY B.C – The City of Courtenay will be looking to remove dangerous trees from city parks and trails over the next month.

Parks staff are working to protect the health and safety of the public by identifying tree risks within parks and trail systems.

An annual tree risk survey was completed and as a result, parks staff and contractors are now working on removing the identified tree risks.

The work has already begun and is expected to last about a month. During the work period some parks areas and trails will be temporarily closed. The public is asked to respect the signs and taped off areas for their own safety.

Risk mitigation measures may include pruning trees, the creation of habitat snags, or complete tree removal.
