COURTENAY B.C -The Courtenay Fire Department will hosting the B.C Regional FireFit Championships on Saturday May 11th and Sunday May 12th.

The championship is known as “the toughest two minutes in sports”, and will take place in the Superstore parking lot next Saturday.

According to a release from the Courtenay Fire Department, the event is a fast-paced and exciting competition that focuses on the wide-range of skills and fitness required for firefighting.

Competitors will range from seasoned veterans to first time rookies, and will feature athletes from across British Columbia and Canada.

On Saturday, individual racers will compete against one another from 10:45 a.m until 4:30 p.m.

Then on Sunday, tandem races and the three to five-person relay will take place from 10:45 a.m until 3:00 p.m.

Don Bardonnex, Courtenay’s Fire Chief, said in the release, that members of the public should come out to see this event.

“This championship is not only exciting to participate in, it’s great to watch,” said Bardonnex.

“Competitors have been training for months and provide a great display of speed, endurance and teamwork.”
