Megaquake would cause serious problems for BC Ferries

A megaquake…or even a very large earthquake, could have dire consequences to what are critical loading points for BC Ferries serving the Island and coastal communities. That from Ray Hebden, of Hebden Engineering.

He says that so much of our goods come by trucks loaded onto ferries through the Tsawwassen and Horseshoe Bay terminals, and both of those locations have problems….problems that could turn into a disaster if a major quake hits.

Now as far as Horseshoe Bay is concerned.

Hebden says he is urging the government to take preemptive action against these types of risks.

He also noted that Canada’s only navy base on the Pacific Coast is in Esquimalt, and the only major air force base is in Comox. Although they supply a lot of their own materials, they do depend highly on ferries to transport needed commodities.
