Comox Hands On Farm closes again due to Ringworm outbreak

The Hands On Farm Petting Zoo in Comox has closed again after a goat is confirmed to have a ringworm infection.

Staff discovered the infection yesterday before closing the zoo immediately.

The Town of Comox says the farm will remain closed while the remaining animals are monitored and the barn is cleaned.

This is the second outbreak of ringworm on the farm in the last two months.

On June 27th, Cosmo the cow was confirmed to have the infection.

After the first outbreak, the farm was disinfected with the Centre for Disease Control guidelines and all animals inspected by a vet on-site before reopening later in the week.

Because of this outbreak, staff are going to reach out to Island Health to help understand why this outbreak happened, and what steps need to be taken to not let it happen again.

A vet will also inspect the farm again before it reopens to the public.
