CVRD seeks feedback on Stage 4 water restrictions

How did the Stage 4 Water Restrictions in April affect your business?

That’s the question the Comox Valley Regional District is asking valley employers.

In April, users of the Comox Valley Water System were under Stage 4  restrictions for the first time ever.

The emergency restrictions were in effect from April 12th to 22nd, while an emergency water pipe repair took place.

The repair included welding by a diver, who will access a section of the system’s largest transmission main, located under the Puntledge River.

Over that time period, the system relied on a much smaller pipe to supply water to its users.

The CVRD is inviting local businesses to take part in a Business Engagement Survey and round-table sessions to clarify water use practices that were impacted during these emergency repairs.

The district is also working closely with the Comox Valley Chamber and the Downtown Courtenay BIA to host round-table working groups.

The groups will then connect with local business representatives to create a set of guidelines on business water use practices.

More information on these info sessions can be found within the survey.

The results of this survey will be presented to the Water Committee.

During Stage 4, users of the Comox Valley Water System reduced water consumption by an average of 4,982 cubic metres a day.

In the process, they saved the equivalent of nearly half a million large watering cans worth of water each day.
