Hands On Farm reopening after ringworm infection

Hands On Farm Petting Zoo has reopened.

It had been shut down earlier this week because of the second case of ringworm in about a month.

Last month, Cosmo the Cow came down with a case of the fungal infection. This time it was Pepper the Alpine Goat. The town says a veterinarian has examined the other animals and given them a clean bill of health.

The Hands On Farm staff is asking visitors to thoroughly wash their hands afterward to cut down the risk of exposure to farm and animal diseases. There is a wash station and gel hand sanitizer stations on-site to help with that.

The town says during the closure Hands On Farm staff did a thorough cleaning of the barn as per Centre for Disease Control recommendations. Farm staff will continue twice-daily inspections of the animals and schedule a precautionary inspection by a veterinarian in two weeks.
