A woman walking her dogs Saturday captured video of a cougar encounter just a few feet above her head.
Tracy Bruce says she was hiking the trails near Lost Lake Saturday evening when her dogs starting barking and wouldn’t stop.
“The dogs starting barking again so I stood up to maybe scold them or something, and that’s when I saw the cougar in the tree about five feet in front of me on the lower branch.”
Bruce added that in a matter of seconds she had to decide what to do.
“There’s a lot of thinking that goes on in a really short period of time. Things I read started flooding into my mind, don’t turn my back, which direction am I going to go.”
Bruce says she had to either head back about six kilometres to the parking lot or pass under the cat and continue along the trail.
She decided to keep going but made sure the cat wasn’t following her before she left the area.
Overall she says there was “No harm no foul, just a wonderful experience.”
