Survey helps determine if Cumberland is age-friendly

Is Cumberland age-friendly?

That’s what the village wants to find out through an online survey.

The village has an age-friendly assessment and action plan in motion.

The goal is to identify age-friendly assets, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.

The average age among Cumberland residents is 38.

Mayor Leslie Baird said there is a tremendous amount of seniors in the village “and we wanted to make sure the issues around the seniors were being addressed.”

Baird said the response to the survey has been impressive.

An “age-friendly” community is a term used by the World Health Organization to describe community planning from the perspective of people 55-and-older.

The plan is to make it easier for older residents to stay connected and active in the community.

The village says your input will be used to help identify what’s working and what’s not for older people in the community.

Based on input, the village plans to develop proposed actions that will be presented for discussion at an open house in late summer.
