New plaza underway in Lewis Park to honour local man

A new plaza is coming to the concession area at Lewis Park to honour a man killed in 2017.

It will feature “Never Forget #9”, which is a tribute to Chris Godfrey, who passed away in 2017 after a head injury during a slo-pitch game.

The project is partially funded by the former Comox Valley Fields of Dreams Society.

Tayco Paving, the ones building the structure have said the work will be discounted in memory of Godfrey.

Construction has already started and depending on the weather and contractor availability, should be complete by the beginning of September.

To also honour Chris, the Comox Valley Slo-Pitch League introduced helmets with “Never Forget #9” on them.
