Support local sports with laughs

– Story by Natalie Nguyen

Get ready for No Pads, No Helmets, Just Balls.

The night of comedy in support of the Comox Valley Kickers Rugby Club is happening Thursday at Roy’s Towne Pub.

Organized and hosted by the Kickers, the event will raise money to purchase new equipment and subsidize travel costs for the upcoming rugby season, with games starting the second week of September.

The show will feature local comedians including:

  • Chris Griffin, who won Vancouver’s Yuk Yuk’s Competition. He was nominated three times and took home one award in the inaugural Vancouver Comedy Awards. He has also performed every year at the Just For Laughs Northwest Festival and recently recorded his second full-length comedy special, Live at the Biltmore.
  • Nanaimo-based Peter Hudson, better known as “5-10” from his viral web series is the other co-headliner. He has won Just For Laughs Northwest Festival, recently opened for Trailer Park Boys’ Randy on his Cheeseburger Tour across Canada and has been the headliner for the Laketown Shakedown for the past two years.
  • Known for his Twitter account, Victoria’s Dan Duvall is the creator of Giraffe Cop, a set of animated comedy shorts featured on the Night Sweats series on Cartoon Network Canada.
  • A gesticulating face-talker, Victoria’s Carilynn Nicholson is a dynamic performer whose take on the absurdities and struggles of life is slightly twisted and pleasingly devilish.
  • Cumberland’s Josh Lichti, Courtenay’s Andrew Pellett and Comox Valley Kickers’ Erin Calder round out the rest of the comedians.

There are limited tickets ($15 in advance or $20 at the door) for the event. Doors open at 5:00pm, with the show starting at 6:00pm. Advance tickets can be purchased at Roy’s Towne Pub or by emailing [email protected].
