All area Mowi salmon farms get ASC certification

Mowi Canada West says all its salmon farms in the Campbell River area have reached the Aquaculture Stewardship Council certification.

The Lee’s Bay farm near Thurlow Island has become the seventh and final farm in the Campbell River production area to be certified. Mowi Canada West managing director Dr. Diane Morrison says the certification keeps operations at a high international standard.

“Our team in B.C. continues to innovate and improve practices. Achieving 100 percent certification in the Campbell River production area is validation that our farms are being operated to the world’s highest standards,” said Morrison.

The Lee’s Bay farm has become the 24th Mowi salmon farm in B.C. to achieve this certification.

To achieve certification under the ASC salmon standard, farms are audited against 500 separate aspects of the site’s performance. It is considered to be the gold standard in environmental and social certification across the globe.

Mowi Canada says with the latest certification, 80 percent of all it’s farms in production are now certified to the ASC standard.
