Governments making progress with K’ómoks First Nation treaty

The K’ómoks First Nation, British Columbia, and Canada have taken more steps forward.

The three governments have signed the K’ómoks First Nation Treaty Revitalization Agreement. It’s aim is to advance reconciliation and treaty negotiations between the parties. The agreement confirms that the governments will work on treaty negotiations to complete the final stage of the process within a two-year time frame.

K’ómoks First Nation Hegus Nicole Rempel says the agreement helps keep the government on track towards a better treaty.

“This approach also holds all parties accountable to the completion of negotiations within a delegated timeframe and addresses critical issues and priorities identified by KFN. We are optimistic this will catalyze the future success of a better Treaty for our Nation.”

The K’ómoks First Nation, British Columbia and Canada are currently in Stage 5 negotiations under the B.C. treaty process.
