CVRD expanding its emergency alert system

The Comox Valley Regional District is expanding its current boil water notification system to a larger local emergency alert service.

Emergency Program Coordinator Howie Siemens says the system will help get alerts out in a quick and easy manner.

“The key piece is that we can get public information messaging out as quickly as possible when the means are there to do so, it’s another good tool in the toolbox to help get people prepared in the community,” said Siemens.

He also says you should be thinking about areas you may be in throughout the district and not just where you live.

“What we are encouraging people is consider where you work, live and play, is where you want to tick those locations to get those alerts because you may not be home. You might be downtown Courtenay or elsewhere when the notification actually comes in,” Siemens added.

The “Get Notified” Connect Rocket system has a large list of places within CVRD including,
The City of Courtenay, Baynes Sound, Denman/Hornby Islands, Lazo North, Puntledge – Black Creek, Comox, Village of Cumberland, and K’ómoks First Nation.

To sign up go to the district’s website and follow the steps outlined for setting up your account.
