The RCMP has confirmed the identities of two people killed in a crash near Campbell River.
They are a man and a woman from Washington state. Both were in their fifties and both were pronounced dead at the scene. Three others were hurt and are still in hospital with serious injuries. The RCMP says none of their names will be released for privacy reasons.
The two-vehicle collision happened yesterday around 5:40pm about 10km north of Campbell River. The RCMP says a vehicle from Washington state was heading north on Highway 19 when it was hit by a southbound pickup truck which had crossed the centre line on a right hand curve. The investigation is ongoing. The RCMP says neither alcohol nor speed have yet to be ruled out as contributing factors. The BC Coroners Service is also investigating.
“This is a very tragic incident,” said Cst. Maury Tyre of the Campbell River RCMP. “Our hearts go out to the families who have been affected by this sad event.”
“We would like to offer our thanks to the Campbell River Fire Department, BC Ambulance Services, and the many other off duty first responders who provided first aid at the scene. The efforts of these caring and professional people greatly assisted in the care and well being of injured people at the scene.”
