Courtenay library hosting talk on surviving BC’s new wildfire reality

It’s no question that BC’s wildfires are changing.

Wilderness dweller Chris Czajkowski and debut author Fred Reid will be at the Courtenay branch of the Vancouver Island Regional Library to talk about 2017’s wildfire season.

The talk will be centred around the experiences described in their new book “Captured by Fire: Surviving British Columbia’s New Wildfire  Reality”.

In 2017, over two hundred fires set the records for the largest total area burned and the largest number of total evacuees in one wildfire season as nearly 10, 000 residents were told to evacuate their homes.

But not everyone left, including Czajkowski and Reid, who both stayed behind to protect their properties and animals. “Captured by Fire” follows the two authors as they lived through the summer of fires and ultimately asking: when is it time to go?

Czajkowski has written eleven books about wilderness living for the last thirty years. She lives in Kleena Kleene, BC. Reid has worked in the agriculture industry his whole life, spending thirty years farming in the Fraser Valley before moving to the Chilcotin. He lives in Anahim Lake, BC.

The event is on October 15th at 6:00 pm. It’s free and all are welcome. Should you have further questions, you can call the library at 250-334-3369.
