More traffic is expected around 19 Wing Comox over the coming months as road and infrastructure upgrades are underway.
19 Wing says residents and drivers in the area may see an increase in truck traffic along Military Row and the entrance to 19 Wing.
You can also expect delays around the main gate to 19 Wing, by the DND property located across from 888 Wing that will be used as a materials staging area for the project.
The project will upgrade and modernize ageing infrastructure at 19 Wing Comox, including roads, electrical distribution systems, communications systems, sewers, and water systems.
It will also involve soil remediation work, the demolition of two obsolete buildings, the installation of electric vehicle charging stations, and the construction of two new security gatehouses.
19 Wing says the work is essential to sustaining all operations and is critical to supporting Fixed-Wing Search and Rescue (FWSAR) aircraft, and the future FWSAR training centre at 19 Wing.
Construction will continue over the next three years, with completion of the overall project hoping to finish in the spring of 2023.
