NDP Gord Johns re-elected for Courtenay-Alberni

Gord Johns and his constituents are celebrating after he will represent the Courtenay-Alberni riding for another term.

Johns said he feels humbled to represent his constituents again.

“I want to thank the voters of Courtenay-Alberni for their confidence. I promise to do my best to make their lives better and to protect our precious environment regardless of how people may have voted,” said Johns.

Johns said voters in Courtenay-Alberni sent a clear message.

“It was about the future of our planet and the future of our children and their children. (Federal NDP leader) Jagmeet Singh’s message of love and courage clearly resonated with coastal people, and the voters of Courtenay-Alberni, they’ve chosen a path of working together rather than partisan politics and respecting our values as coastal people, protecting our salmon, eradicating poverty, and real reconciliation with Indigenous people and making life affordable for all of us,” Johns added.

He also thanked all of his supporters for their dedication.

“Their commitment to social environmental and economic justice. It was really inspiring to me. The result today would not have been possible without them.”

Johns isn’t the only NDP in the area who is celebrating tonight. NDP incumbent Rachel Blaney was re-elected in her riding of North Island-Powell River.
