RCMP reminding residents to stay safe this Halloween

The RCMP is reminding you and your kids to stay safe this spooky season.

It says there are a few simple things that can be done to help keep everyone safe including:

  • Adding reflective tape or glow sticks/tape to your dark costumes
  • Don’t eat candy that has previously been opened or comes in unsealed packages
  • Drivers are remembered to exercise extra caution and go slow

The RCMP also says it might be best to avoid zombies as there are reports they like brains.

An extra warning is also going out this year due to the recent legalization of Cannabis in Canada, specifically edibles.

Police say items such as gummies and candies that do not come in commercial packaging have the risk of being contaminated with Cannabis or other drugs and should not be eaten.

Campbell River RCMP spokesperson Cst. Maury Tyre says the best advice is to just have a talk with your kids about Halloween safety.

“Talk about what to eat and what not to eat and especially how to act safely as a pedestrian. With all the excitement of All Hallows Eve, children sometimes forget the rules they know and require the gentle reminders before they head out of the home.”

If you do see anything suspicious contact the Comox Valley or Campbell River RCMP detachments.
