House prices in the Comox Valley continue to inch higher.

The benchmark price for a single-family home in the valley is now $579,904. 

Year-to-date, that up 7.1 percent compared to last year.

It’s a similar story with the average price of an apartment, which now sits at $293, 257. That marks a 6.9 percent jump from last year.

The valley continues to grow, too. 

Year-to-date housing starts are up 12.3 percent compared to the first nine months of 2018.

And while prices and housing starts continue to rise, the real estate market went in an opposite direction.

Vancouver Island Real Estate Board stats show a 14.3 percent decline in single-family home sales in the valley, year-to-date.

Apartment sales also fell 21.9 percent through the first nine months of the year compared to the same period in 2018.
