An automatic external defibrillator has been added to another public building in Comox. This time at Ecole Au-Coeur-de-l’ile.
The new AED will join a network of the live-saving devices already introduced to many businesses and public buildings across Comox.
It will be added to the school on Linshart Road, next door to Comox Fire Rescue.
Comox Fire Chief Gord Schreiner says it’s great to see the school taking initiative to help save lives.
“It is great to see businesses like this assisting us in our efforts to have AEDs available all over Comox. I am also very proud of our firefighters for their support of this important project. We now have over 40 AEDs in Comox,” said Schreiner.
Schreiner added the long term goal is to have an AED available in almost every business and public building in Comox.
The AEDs cost around $2000 and Comox firefighters have been co-sponsoring them with local businesses that agree to donate half of the amount. They also provide both CPR and AED training to staff at the location.
Comox Fire Rescue says it has a long-standing positive relationship with Ecole Au-Coeur-de-l’ile school and had donated $2,000.00 earlier this year to the B.C. Francophone Games as well, which were partially hosted at the school.
