CORRECTION: $215,900 heading to non-profits in the Comox Valley

CORRECTION:

The December 9th release from the provincial government contained some incorrect information. Seven organizations received a total of $215,900. The Comox Valley Ground Search & Rescue Association, and the Kitty Cat P.A.L. Society did not receive funding. The Mt. Washington Ski Patrol Association did and was not listed in the release. See the updated information below.

Courtenay Comox MLA Ronna-Rae Leonard says $215,900 is going to eight organizations in the valley thanks to the province’s Community Gaming Grants program.

The program gives British Columbians the opportunity to learn and connect with nature. It also supports wildlife rehabilitation programs and shelters for animals.

The eight groups in the Comox Valley receiving the funding are:

  • Community Justice Centre of the Comox Valley Society: $20,000
  • Comox Valley Land Trust: $35,000
  • Comox Valley Marine Rescue Society: $25,400
  • Comox Valley Project Watershed Society: $36,500
  • Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society (MARS): $46,000
  • Tsolum River Restoration Society: $20,000
  • Mt. Washington Ski Patrol Association: $33,000

In 2019/2020, the province is providing approximately $4.6 million to more than 135 organizations in the environment sector.

It’s also providing approximately $5.6 million to nearly 125 organizations in the public safety sector through safety programs and other non-profit organizations.
