Comox Mayor Russ Arnott says 2019 was an exciting year for the town.

He says it started early with a few changes to council.

“We started the year off with a new council, a new mayor and the new councillors. (They) have been understanding of how the municipality works and what our challenges are and we’ve actually taken some great direction from them with putting the lens on climate change.”

Arnott added that throughout 2019 staff did a great job behind the scenes to add a lot of new things to the town.

“We had the church street taphouse, we had the cannabis store open up, and this has really been a shift of what people have been used to in Comox for a number of years. Not a lot of things have been happening.”

“To make all these things happen there’s a lot of work behind the scenes and it’s taken a few years to get to the point that were starting to see this momentum and I applaud the previous council for their hard work that they’ve done too to get us to that point,” Arnott added.

He says the hope is that 2020 will be just as successful as 2019.

“I’m looking forward to this year and we’ll continue on the hard work of representing all the residents and I’m sure this time next year we’ll be happy with the result as we are happy with the results from 2019.”
