January 15th cancellations and closures

There are a number of weather-related closures and cancellations today.

-School District 71 has cancelled all district meetings and group activities scheduled for tonight.

The cancellation affects the Boundary Consultation Process scheduled at Royston Elementary at 6:30 p.m. The session will be rescheduled for January 29 at 6:30 p.m.

-All BC Ferries sailings after 3:00pm on the following routes are cancelled:

Tsawwassen – Swartz Bay
Tsawwassen – Duke Point
Horseshoe Bay – Departure Bay
Horseshoe Bay – Langdale
Tsawwassen – Southern Gulf Islands
Swartz Bay – Sturdies Bay
Horseshoe Bay – Bowen Island
Langdale – Gambier & Keats Islands

The 7:10pm and 8:45pm sailings from Powell River to Comox have been cancelled as well.

-North Island College will close the Campbell River, Comox Valley, St. Joe’s, Port Alberni and Ucluelet campuses as of 2:30pm. Mixalakwila campus remains open however, ITV classes have been cancelled.

-Curbside garbage and recycling pick-up in Campbell River has been cancelled today, and may be cancelled tomorrow if the snow keeps up. Today’s collection is postponed until next Wednesday and twice the regular permitted amount will be collected.

-Due to inclement weather and winter driving conditions several Comox Valley Regional District facilities will be closing early today.

· Comox Valley Regional District Office closing at 3:30 pm
· Comox Valley Sports Centre closing at 3 pm
· Comox Valley Aquatic Centre closing at 3:30 pm
· Comox Valley Waste Management facility closing at 4:30 pm

-Due to weather conditions, please note that the Strathcona Gardens facility will be closed at 5:00 pm today to keep as many vehicles off the road and people home safe. It is scheduled to re-open tomorrow morning at 6:00 am.
