There’s yet another automatic external defibrillator (AED) at a Comox business.
Nourish Wellness has signed onto the program.
The AED was given to them through a shared cost arrangement with the Comox Firefighters’ Association.
Comox fire chief, Gord Schreiner, said it’s great to see businesses assisting in the department’s efforts to have AEDs available all over Comox.
“I am also very proud of our firefighters for their support of this important project,” he added.
This brings the number of AEDs in Comox to 50.
Schreiner’s long term goal is to have an AED available in almost every business and public building in Comox.
The units cost roughly $2,000.
Local businesses pay for half while the Comox firefighters cover the remaining cost.
They also provide both CPR and AED training to the staff.
Fewer than 10 percent of sudden cardiac arrest victims typically survive, but studies show that 30 to 50 percent would likely survive if CPR and AEDs were used within five minutes of collapse.
