North Island MLA calls minimum wage hike, “Insulting!”

The minimum wage in B.C. will be linked to the province’s rate of inflation and rise every September…that from Jobs Minister Shirley Bond.

Bond says the rate will fall in line with the B.C. Consumer price Index, the first increase kicking in this coming September, with a raise from $10.25 per hour, to $10.45.

Bond confirmed if the CPI rate drops across the year, the minimum wage would remain at the previous year’s rate.

North Island NDP MLA Claire Trevena says a 20 cent hike…is an insult.

Meanwhile Bond says the minimum wage for servers will go from $9.00 per hour to $9.20, and will be lower than the regular minimum wage due to tips.
