Comox Valley Students good as gold at Skills Canada competition

School District 71 students took home 13 gold medals at the Skills Canada BC Regional Competition.

It was held at G.P. Vanier Secondary School on Friday.

There were 240 competitors from 17 different schools across the region competing in 20 different trades and technology categories including automotive, carpentry, culinary, and welding, to photography, animation, and web design.

Not only do the winners get a gold medal, but they also get the chance to compete at the provincial Skills Canada competition in April.

School District 71 says the competitions serve two main purposes; to celebrate and reward students for excellence in their mastery of skilled trade and technology skills, and to create an interactive and engaging environment for the thousands of young people who attend the competitions as spectators.
