COVID-19 prompts cancellation of Vancouver Island Construction Conference

The 2020 Vancouver Island Construction Conference won’t be happening this year.

The Vancouver Island Construction Association says in the wake of recent announcements from both federal and provincial health officials surrounding COVID-19, it decided to cancel the event originally set for April 16th.

“During this time of unprecedented concern as we collectively navigate the impact of the Novel
Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Vancouver Island Construction Association considers the safety and health of our members, community and colleagues paramount,” states Rory Kulmala, CEO of the Vancouver Island Construction Association.

This event, scheduled to be hosted at the Victoria Conference Centre, typically draws over 300
representatives from Vancouver Island’s construction sector and focuses on topics and issues relevant to the domestic construction market.

Kulmala adds that it wasn’t something the team wanted to do, but they felt it was necessary.

“We will continue to support the initiatives and directives that have been set by the Provincial Health Officer and to do what we can to reduce the spread of COVID-19. It’s very unfortunate to take such actions, but necessary if we are going to overcome this”.

The conference is one of many public events on Vancouver Island  cancelled as a precautionary measure to COVID-19 and as directed by the province.
