COVID-19 precautions limits services at 19 Wing

Fears over the COVID-19 virus are curbing operations at 19 Wing Comox.

As of today, it’s limiting Wing access to only those personnel required for essential services.

This is in accordance with the Chief of the Defence Staff’s directive last Friday.

19 Wing is continuing essential core and administration activities to proceed with on-going operations.

It’s also taking precautions to avoid any illness or additional exposure to the Wing’s military and civilian personnel.

Part of the Wing’s personnel will remain working at the base, and others will continue to work from other locations.

“Adopting best practices for mitigating COVID-19 is a matter of obligation for readiness, as the 19 Wing must be able to continue current operations, and be ready for future operations such as search-and-rescue and for contingencies and for any unknown challenges they could face,” the Department of National Defence said.

“Faced with the COVID-19 spread, the Department of National Defence and Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) are taking unprecedented measures to protect the health and well-being of its members, based on best practices recommended by Canadian health authorities and the Canadian Forces Surgeon General.”
