‘We’re here for the greater good of our community:’ Chamber CEO

Support local business.

That’s the message from Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce CEO Dianne Hawkins, as the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds.

Hawkins said you can help out local businesses by buying gift certificates from stores, ordering takeout, or simply following the rules of maintaining physical distance from others.

She said for the most part, people are doing their part to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus.

“I am working from the office, to be honest, (and) everyone else is working remotely,” she said, “and what I’ve noticed driving into work is there are not a lot of cars on the road, there aren’t a lot of people out and about, and I really have a sense that people are wanting to participate fully and see this end sooner than later.”

The Chamber’s Facebook page is also keeping a daily update on who’s open and who’s adjusting their hours.

Hawkins is She’s calling on businesses and people to unite during these uncertain times.

“This is a time for us to come together, and to work together as organizations,” she said. “We’re here for the greater good of our community.”

The Chamber is hosting a Zoom Call tomorrow morning for 10:30am to 11:30am.

The session aims to provide clarity for you, your business, and your employees as we navigate the current health crisis.

“We want to talk to business owners (about), ‘what are your questions?’ ‘What is keeping you up at night right now?’” Hawkins said.
