Comox Rotary Club donates $10,000 to Dawn to Dawn for COVID-19 support

More support is being given to the valley’s vulnerable, thanks to a donation from the Comox Rotary Club to the Dawn to Dawn Action on Homelessness Society.

The club presented a $10,000 cheque to Dawn to Dawn president Sue Finneron for anything the organization might need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The society is the only provider of transitional housing in the Comox Valley intended to get homeless individuals and families off the streets and into a safe living environment.

Finneron says the money will make a big difference during these tough times.

“We’re going to budget it over the next couple of months because of course, we don’t know how long this is going to last. We will be using it for our clients that we already help house as well as people that are out in the street because, of course, with the shutdown of the food bank and the soup kitchen at St.George’s, or the limited service that we’re getting from there, people need help.”

She added that the donation is being put to good use almost as soon as they got it.

“It’s going to work right now, in fact, I was out just right now giving a fellow a gift certificate to Edible Island, who has some food allergies. It’s so great to see people so thankful and us being able to get the money to them right away.”

Finneron says it’s amazing to see the reactions from people that Dawn to Dawn helps every day and know that any donation can go a long way.

“I wish everybody was able to go out and experience what I just did this afternoon and be able to help people like that. It’s so amazing, it is such a great feeling, you feel like Santa Claus almost.”
