Fire breaks out at 19 Wing Comox

A fire broke out today in a building located on the base at approximately 2:30 p.m. forcing a dozen members of the 19 Wing Defence Team to immediately evacuate the building.

Smoke was discovered on the top floor of the two-story office building and the fire alarm was pulled to immediately alert all other staff working in the various offices located on both floors.

Major Mary Lee says the 19 Wing Fire Responders, located at the Wing Fire Hall adjacent the building, arrived immediately on scene and quickly contained the fire from spreading.

No one was injured. Fortunately, few people were in the building at the time of the incident.

The cause of the fire and the extent of damage are not known and will be under investigation.
