The Town of Comox is looking to help out restaurants, pubs, breweries and cafes as the “new normal” is slowly coming to fruition.
At Wednesday’s council meeting, adjustments were made to the Town’s Parklet Program which allows restaurants to use parking spaces to provide an outdoor seating platform.
Changes were also made to bylaw enforcement that allows businesses to expand quickly, by eliminating the need to construct a patio at grade level, removing building permit requirements, and implementing a streamlined application process to allow for expedient approvals.
Mayor Russ Arnott said taking the initiative for these businesses will help them do their part to keep safe while still remaining open.
“Our restaurants and food & beverage businesses are an integral component of what makes the Town of Comox an incredible place to live, while also providing employment to hundreds in the area, thereby supporting our economic wellbeing,” said Arnott.
“These businesses are taking significant strides to offer a safe environment for their staff and guests, and these measures we’ve approved should help alleviate some barriers to businesses getting back open.”
Those proposed changes were unanimously agreed on by council members.
