Summer school plans nixed in Comox Valley

We won’t be seeing summer school in the Comox Valley.

At the February regular board meeting, superintendent Tom Demeo presented trustees with preliminary plans to develop a summer school program for elementary and secondary students.

COVID-19 restrictions and suspension of in-class instruction throughout April and May dashed those plans.

Demeo says the time is not feasible this year.

“Instead, we will focus on our current reality and make sure our students are on track to succeed,” he added.

“Our educators have gone above and beyond to maintain a continuity of learning and are doing tremendous work to welcome some of our learners back into the classroom. Now is not the time to develop additional educational programs. We will continue to plan for a summer school program for July 2021.”

Navigate NIDES will continue to offer summer programming for secondary classes, as is part of its education program that runs year-round.
